"We have a little tradition that has been going for about 12, maybe 14 years, where some of the boys come into my room and we have a round-robin game of backgammon," All Blacks forwards coach Cron explains.

Now the new breed of test players are being invited to join the likes of Read and Retallick to the Cron pre-test chill session.

Cron, 64, should know. He has been a part of the All Blacks' coaching staff since 2004. Before that he worked under Steve Hansen with Wales, including at the 2003 World Cup in Australia.
