In those matches, the All Blacks showed how capable they are on attack when firing on all cylinders, and much of the same will be expected of them in their follow-up clash with the Wallabies at Eden Park on Saturday.

Win that clash, and they will lock the Bledisloe Cup away for a 19th straight year and force the Wallabies to wait at least another year to break their 35-year losing streak against the New Zealanders at Eden Park.

That should provide the All Blacks with a solid platform to challenge for yet another Rugby Championship title, but the real test will come against the Springboks, whose forward pack and breakdown dominance remains the best in the world.

Last year’s first-ever defeat to Los Pumas won’t have been forgotten either, so there remains plenty of work for the All Blacks to do if they are to come away as champions by the beginning of October. ARG NZ Rugby game

In saying that, the quality of their squad is evident and it is difficult to go past them as title favourites, although the task of becoming SANZAAR’s best side will be tough as they face the prospect of playing their last home test of the year this weekend.

The Springboks spurned an invitation to take part in last year’s Australian-hosted Rugby Championship, claiming their players were not sufficiently conditioned at that time to participate as they had not played enough rugby for their South African clubs following the pandemic-forced stoppage of the 2020 calendar.  

However, with the Springboks now back up and running with six recent Test matches under its belt on the back of their home-based players playing a sufficient chunk of rugby for their franchise teams, South Africa feel they are ready for the challenge of taking part in this year’s Rugby Championship. 

With Argentina having taken on both Australia and New Zealand in the revised 2020 Championship, they have more recent experience than the Springboks in playing these teams.

All Blacks in line to play big-money test in the USA

 The USA Men’s National Team XVs will host the most successful rugby team in the sport’s history, the New Zealand All Blacks, for the first time ever in Washington, DC when they square off on Saturday, October 23, 2021 in the inaugural 1874 Cup, at FedEx Field. It will be the first time the All Blacks have played in the United States since 2016.

The 2021 Steinlager Series will be anchored on two Tests between the All Blacks and Fiji in what will be the first time the All Blacks have played back-to-back Tests against the Flying Fijians.

The All Blacks have played Fiji nine times before, but not since 2011 in what was the final Test match at Carisbrook in Dunedin. The first match against Fiji was in Suva in 1974, with the All Blacks pipping the home side that day 14-13.

The Steinlager Series will kick off on Saturday 3 July with the All Blacks playing at Mt Smart Stadium, Auckland, for the first time in what will be an historic Test against Tonga. The match is also a double-header with the Māori All Blacks playing Manu Samoa beforehand.

The action moves to Dunedin the following weekend for the first All Blacks vs Fiji Test at Forsyth Barr Stadium, Dunedin, on Saturday 10 July. The following weekend, Saturday 17 July, will be a second double-header day of international rugby, with the All Blacks second Test against the Flying Fijians at FMG Stadium Waikato in Hamilton, and Tonga playing Samoa in a RWC 2023 Qualifying match prior.

British and Irish Lions' revised 2021 tour schedule in South Africa

The revised 2021 British and Irish Lions tour schedule has been finalised, with two Tests in Johannesburg and one in Cape Town confirmed.

The Lions will no longer be facing an Invitational South Africa side, however, with a game instead against club side the Lions added to the fixture list. Warren Gatland's Lions will also be unable to travel to play in Port Elizabeth, Durban and Nelspruit on the tour, with all eight tour games rearranged to be between Cape Town, Johannesburg, and one in Pretoria (vs the Bulls).

Games against the Lions (July 3) and then the Sharks (July 7), both in Johannesburg, will begin the tour, before the tourists will face the Bulls at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria (July 10).

The final two tour games before the Tests will see the Lions face a South Africa 'A' side on July 14 and then the Stormers on July 17, both in Cape Town.

The first Test against the Springboks will now be in Cape Town on July 24, before the second and third take place in Johannesburg on July 31 and August 7.

SA Rugby is organising all games in the schedule on the basis they will take place behind closed doors.
